Provisional Licence
Before you begin to learn to drive on public roads in Ireland, you must hold a provisional driving license. In order to take the driving test you must hold a provisional license covering the category in which you wish to be tested. Before you can apply for your first provisional driving license, you must complete and pass a Driver Theory Test, you must also be at least 17 years old to apply. Theory Test
The driver theory test consists of a multiple choice exam. You are to answer 40 questions and you must answer 35 correctly to successfully pass the test.

Full Driving Licence
A driving test is designed to determine that you know the Rules of the Road, possess the knowledge and skill to drive competently in accordance with those rules and drive with proper regard for the safety and convenience of other road users. Driving tests are carried out by the Department of Transport. Before you apply for a driving test it is important to be familiar with all aspects of driving and to have a number of hours behind the wheel whether it be with a driving instructor or a fully insured and licensed driver.
